Is Quicken For Mac 2016 Subscription Only Rating: 8,4/10 1502 reviews

How can the answer be improved?

I've been a long time Quicken user but last year, instead of upgrading to Quicken Premier 2017 I stayed with Quicken Premier 2016. I've seen some posting here and on Amazon that says that Quicken is now a subscription service but I'm confused as to what this really means to me. First and foremost I do not use Quicken Online nor do I use Quicken on my Android devices.

I only use Quicken on my desktop PC and the only online functionality that I use is Premier's update functionality to download any new credit card transactions and to download stock and mutual fund share prices so that Quicken can keep track of my investment portfolio. So what, exactly, does this subscription thing mean to me? Is the subscription for Quicken Online or is the subscription for the basic software functionality that would include the ability to download credit card and stock quotes? Here's my concern. Based on the limited changes that Quicken is making to the Quicken Premier the only reason for me to upgrade to a newer version is for product support which I understand was previously limited to the current version and 2 versions back.

I was considering upgrading to Premier 2018 just because that it's been a year since Quicken split from Intuit and I figured that by now the Premier 2018 would be a more stable product than the 2017 version. That being said I'm concerned that if Quicken is changing their pricing model to be a 100% subscription model just to use the basic functionality of the software and to download credit card and stock transactions it may not be worth the money. I can understand if the subscription only pertains to Quicken Online and I will consider upgrading if I can upgrade every 1-2 years and still use it as I have in the past.but right now I cannot determine what they are referring to. Can anyone please explain? In a way, Quicken has been a subscription product for some years now if you use it for downloading bank and credit card information. Each release came with approx 3 and and half years of technical support and download capability (see the ). Now Quicken are being more upfront about it and calling it a 'membership'.

You can purchase one year directly from Quicken.com, or if you buy from a retailer (Staples, Office Depot etc.) they are selling two year memberships. Unless you buy the starter edition the only difference is the length of time you have before you need to pay again to maintain the download services (the starter edition becomes read only if you don't renew but other editions allow manual entry). So your decision comes down to cost. Is the value of Quicken to you worth the price to renew every year or two? Well, that's a horse of a different color. So, am I correct in assuming that if I can find and purchase a copy of Quicken Premier 2017 I would still get 2 more years of support and download functionality? Is it also true that since I own Quicken 2016 I would still have support true 2018 if I wanted to save money now?

Also I noted that Amazon is selling a copy with a 27 month subscription and at their current price this equates to a subscription rate of $4.81 a month whereas a one year upgrade thru Quicken would equate to a monthly subscription of $5.62. Seems that if I'm forced to upgrade Amazon has a better deal. Skype for mac 2015 support. Please advise on what my options are.

Thanks for the clarification. You can stick with your current version as long as you wish, and if you get a copy of Q2017 you’ll get an extra year of downloading and the be able to use it manually for as long as you wish.

Yes, Amazon currently have an offer of a 27 month subscription, I don’t know how long that applies for or if they or other retailers might have better offers at some point. If you want to continue downloading from banks and other financial institutions you will at some point need to upgrade.

Look for the best deal you can afford at the time. Consider how much the capabilities of Quicken are worth to you; ultimately only you can say if $5.62 per month represents value to you. Some people pay more than that per day at Starbucks, the perception of value is subjective. I have Quicken 2017 Rental Property Manager. As per the Discontinuation Policy, It appears that if I: - continue using my 2017 version, I will be able to download transactions and quotes till April 2020; - upgrade to 2018 version, offered only as a yearly subscription, I will be able to download transactions and updates only for 'One year from purchase date', which would currently be until October 2018. This means that upgrading now would mean I would pay more but be able to use the download services for approximately a year and a half shorter time.
